When considering a credit card program for your business, or when assessing your current program, you must review your equipment, fees and servicing to find the program that is right for you. Should you replace that machine with one that will only print the last 4 digits on my customers’ receipt? Michigan law requires that merchants truncate their customers’ credit card #’s on the customer’s copy of the credit card receipt. You probably do not need a new machine as most any credit card machine can be programmed to print this correctly. Call your current credit card processor and inform them that you would like to have the customers’ credit card # truncated. It should only take about 10 minutes to re-program your machine, and this should be completed at no cost to you. If your current processor is unable or unwilling to help you, simply call another processor who would be happy to have your business. When considering new companies, inquire about equipment needed and processing fees.
